A growing trend, functional family rooms are live able, warm, ideal for your casual entertaining, and keep their good looks for years. New, Classical drop side table — a real space-saver that folds out to family-size. Matching teak chairs covered in soft of wool tweed. A room to relax in, relishing the luxury of ‘Tatters all’. Leather covered family-proof sofa, chairs and ottoman in rich Munich Tan. Everything’s at your fingertips in walnut-tone Low line wall units (one designed for TV or stereo), teamed with Classical side tables and sofa table.

Just starting out on your own? The space and investment value are your two biggest considerations when buying furniture their double-barreled answer is the brilliant new Classical drops side table. Here, it’s just right for a romantic rendezvous; later, it can double as an occasional table, or fold out to full size, seating up to six guests. The carver chairs are also talented; Upholstered in lush ‘Leisure’ Shell, with walnut-tone trim that matches the table and streamlined buffet.

Miniatures are classified into three main groups: Dolls house miniatures; precisely 1/12 of normal size, covering every possible item of furniture and clothing, right down to hand- painted porcelain dishes fired in their own tiny kiln. Apprentice pieces; or second-size miniatures known to be made from the late 17th century. Children furniture; which strictly speaking isn’t miniature at all? But proper-sized furniture’s for people who happen to be small. Apprentice pieces are for me the most intriguing, partly for their authority and craftsmanship (which can vary a great deal) but also for the mystery that surrounds them. What are they? Why were they made? The idea fashionable fifty years ago that each was an apprentice’s test piece, made at the end of his indenture as proof of his skills, has gone by the board.

The second letter comes from Mrs. M. Richards who would like a “granny flat” in the garden for her mother. She asks for a simple self-contained unit consisting of one bedroom cum living room, a modest kitchenette with store cupboards and a table stove. She would also like a little veranda for her mother to sit in the evenings. It’s an excellent idea to construct a compact little home with all facilities within easy reach for your mother. Here we see in this one sketch how cozy it can look although all the different “rooms” are placed in one area. The designer suggests a single bed and side table in the “bedroom” and a screen divider between the bedroom and kitchen. The bed is made of plywood frame with laminate finish and PVC headboard. The kitchenette consists mainly of lower shelves with a few upper shelves for storage purposes. The living room is filled with two double chairs of plywood frame and comfortable fabric furnishing, a coffee table of chipboard and glass and a sideboard for the television set.

The living room, as your preference is for a semi-circular arrangement. The designer has through of a slightly elevated semi-circular section with lounge set of plywood frame with velvet finish and carpeting for the floor. Included in this area is a display unit of compact chipboard, glass shelves and mirror tiles as backdrop. A corner unit consisting of seats in plywood frame with velvet finish and sideboard in compact chipboard occupy part of the area. The master bedroom, the designer has enlarged the room by doing away with the balcony and placing the dressing table and chair where it used to be. The rest of the furniture in the room consists of a built-in wardrobe, bed and side tables of compact chipboard. The bed is made of plywood frame with velvet finish. With a bigger bedroom, a little study area comprising writing table and chair.
